1. Initial assessment
Find out what you owe if you book the assessment and decline further work. Ask whether the fee applies toward the next stage and what you get in writing if the inspector cannot identify the cause that day.
A removal estimate might cover a single visit or a series of visits with repairs. Compare what each company will deliver before comparing the totals.

Ask which visits are included and what would trigger another charge. Have the provider explain how they determine when the animal is out and who is responsible for checking or removing any equipment used.
Get a list of the openings the quote covers. A repair to one vent is a different scope from work along several roof edges. Ask who supplies materials and whether damaged roofing or siding needs a separate contractor.
If cleanup appears on the estimate, ask for the location and size of the affected area and the specific work proposed. Confirm whether a return visit is included if you notice activity again, and who you should call.
Imagine one contractor offers an attic assessment and a visit to address the animal. Another proposes those steps plus a vent repair and a return check. Ask the first contractor to price the repair and check separately, then ask the second which vent and follow-up conditions the price covers. You can now compare the cost of the work you actually want.
If another opening is discovered once work begins, ask for the revised scope and price before approving it. A written change lets you see which part of the original plan stays in place and what you are adding.
Ask the provider to show you the specific repair or work covered, when coverage starts and how to request a return. An estimate that says “warranty included” leaves these questions open. Keep the final scope and warranty together so you can refer to both if the issue returns.
Check that the company can handle the type of work at your property. For North Carolina, the state directory lets you research agents by county and specialty, including services such as exclusion and repairs. Confirm qualifications and insurance with the provider. If all you know is that something is moving overhead, make an attic observation log before discussing the visit. If you already have an estimate, circle the work items and charges that need an answer. Browse the local guides for official resources and questions specific to your area.
